This is a professional quality microfilter to full BT specifications. If you have the 'wires only' ADSL service then you will need an ADSL splitter, otherwise known as a microfilter for each phone socket around your house. The ADSL splitter separates the ADSL (high frequency) signals from the analogue phone (low frequency) signals. The splitter includes a UK ring capacitor for devices with a REN of up to 2.6 The ADSL service is carried as a high-frequency signal on your ordinary telephone line. This high-frequency signal is incompatible with your ordinary telephone, so a filter is required to keep the phone and ADSL signal apart. It is possible to fit just one filter at the point where the phone line comes into your building but this requires some work with a screwdriver and possible re-wiring. So the alternative is to use a filter at each point where a phone is connected. You don't need a splitter at the point where your modem is connected unless you wish to connect a phone to this point as well.
